At the start of the project, the homeowners of this Wallingford area home affectionately called it the bunker. Hinge Studio worked closely with this young family to transform what was a tiny dark one story concrete block structure into a handsome three story modern with views of the lake. An open floor plan, high ceilings, exposed structure and an abundance of natural light were paired with economical building materials to create a spacious 4 bedroom home on a modest budget. By reusing existing foundation, an efficient linear floor plan was developed that allows this home to feel much larger than its 2600sf. The home utilizes daylighting, passive ventilation, and hydronic heating to lessen its impact on the environment.
