Hinge Studio’s design approach for Meet the Moon, a well-received cafe and cocktail bar in Seattle’s Leschi neighborhood, began with an extremely tight space with extremely ambitious functional requirements. The project owner desired an intimate, engaging atmosphere that is both bright and fresh during daytime hours, and classic and upscale enough to transition into a cocktail bar in the evening. In response, Hinge Studio proposed to merge a modern-industrial style with Leschi’s characteristic beach vibe, and accomplished this by richly layering details and materials. Reclaimed wood floors, whimsical wallpaper, and unique lighting fixtures lay a solid backdrop upon which a prominent three-sided bar, intimate bar seating and hung custom steel and wood system commands the center of the space. Hinge Studio also modified the existing storefront system, integrating overhead glass doors that open up to the neighborhood’s streetscape.
