The renovation and addition to this 1930s Forest Service Cabin on Lake Wenatchee is currently under construction. Hinge Studio worked with the home owners to modify an existing 14 x 20 foot lean-to mudroom into a two story addition that encorporates a porch, stair, dining area, bathroom, and bedroom. Combining this addition with a kitchen and bathroom renovation, the cabin becomes a generous and functional summer gathering place for all the generations of this large family. The renovation keeps the existing log structure intact – exposing the 75 year old logs where ever possible. A simple material pallet including exposed structural beams and plywood, as well as off the shelf cabinets customized with plywood doors created a very cost-effective solution that is in keeping with the cabin’s rustic character.
