Mama Stortinis embodies the quality, classy comfort and generosity of Italian American culture. This Seattle based restaurant group approached Hinge with a challenging proposition. Flip an existing nautically themed fish house restaurant to reflect the quality and brand of Mama Stortinis on a tight budget. By celebrating the elements of the existing restaurant that worked for the new brand – such as the brick and the large open wood trusses, and utilizing simple traditional style paneling and detailing to conceal and hide the former nautical themes, Hinge transformed the space. The bar area was opened up by strategically removing built-ins to create more flexible seating. Lighting was replaced to reflect the vintage character of old school house and barn lighting. Hinge Worked with Urban Artworks and local artist Mari Shibuya to create a large mural of Mama Stortini cooking painted over a collage of vintage photos and memorabilia from the Italian American tradition. The space is warm, inviting, classy and a wonderful place to gather for a delicious Italian meal.
